First Blog - Can it be THAT bad?

Its hard to know where to start when writing a blog for the first time, so instead of thinking for ages about where I should begin, I guess I'll jump straight in and start with one of my attitudes towards the Media (The News specifically).
When I'm on the tube and I don't have a newspaper, I will often attempt to discreetly read articles over people's shoulders - its a bit cheeky I know but hey, its so cramped and so the paper is usually practically in my face anyway. Something I notice a lot, but yesterday especially, is just how negative the majority of the headlines are: Leona Lewis got punched in the face, a man got jailed for giving cigarettes to a three year old, a teenager died from drinking too much vodka, and the list goes on. Seeing the latest horrors unfold before my eyes and my heart sank further and further into my shoes, "Can things get any worse!?"
Being made to feel like that is not really a great way to start the day is it? But it is how a lot do indeed begin, whether through watching the TV or reading the paper. People in general (especially Brits) seem to enjoy hearing bad news and pointing our fingers, and complaining ("Oh isn't it awful weather?" "It's too cold," "Its too hot,") but it just leads to a really really bad attitude towards life.
Now I'm not suggesting we ignore the bad things that happen, or fill our newspapers with unrealistic and cringe worthy things (like on Cheerios boxes - surely you and your family don't enjoy breakfast THAT much...?), but surely there must be actual good things to talk about out there? Is the Media just blind to them after constantly searching for bad things to broadcast, or do they know that a newspaper full of good things won't get read? Would it get read? Would you read it? If not, why? Or do you just enjoy a good moan like everyone else?
